LAMBERTON, Minn. - The Highwater Ethanol plant in the southwestern Minnesota town of Lamberton holds its grand opening celebration Friday.
Highwater Ethanol will use around 20 million bushels of Minnesota-grown corn to produce 55 million gallons of ethanol and nearly 180,000 tons of livestock feed a year.
The company says dignitaries scheduled to attend include U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson, who chairs the House Agriculture Committee, and Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Gene Hugoson.
The Renewable Fuels Association notes the celebration is on the eighth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. It says ethanol production is an important component of the nation's energy security strategy because it reduces America's dependence on foreign oil.
