Circuit City cardholders get Best Buy cards

Best Buy Co., the Richfield consumer electronics retailer, offered its private-label credit card to former customers of Circuit City. Circuit City credit-card holders will automatically receive Best Buy cards through Chase Bank. Notification of the change was sent to cardholders last week, said Best Buy spokeswoman Sue Busch. Chase also handled Circuit City's credit-card transactions. Circuit City was the second-largest U.S. electronics retailer before it closed its U.S. stores last month.

Ameriprise vulnerable to withdrawals

Ameriprise Financial Inc. of Minneapolis is more vulnerable than competitors if life insurance customers in the United States begin asking for their money back, Morgan Stanley said. Ameriprise policies subject to discretionary withdrawal account for about half the company's investment portfolio, compared with an industry average of about 15 percent, said Nigel Dally, a Morgan Stanley analyst, in a note to investors. Ameriprise spokesman Paul Johnson said, "We are in retail net inflows due to the long-term client relationships that our financial planning approach generates and our strong financial foundation."
