Minnesota firms further pare worker rolls

Last update: January 23, 2009 - 10:02 PM

Three Minnesota manufacturers announced additional layoffs Friday. Window and door maker Andersen Corp. said that 160 more employees at its Bayport plant have been laid off because of the deteriorating housing market. Those employees were told to expect to be out for at least the first quarter of 2009. Polaris Industries said it will eliminate 460 jobs worldwide, including approximately 160 salaried and hourly full-time positions and about 300 contractors, part-time and temporary positions across the company. Polaris makes all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles. Hutchinson Technology said that it will close its Sioux Falls, S.D., manufacturing facility, where 300 people work. The closing comes two weeks after the firm laid off 1,380 workers.
