A former salesman for Select Comfort Corp. has sued the company, accusing the Plymouth-based mattress maker of running a defective commission tracking system that shortchanged sales staff for years. Troy Taylor, 38, of Princeton, Minn., filed the lawsuit Thursday in Hennepin County District Court.

Larry Schaefer, Taylor's attorney at Schaefer Law Firm, is seeking class status and said losses "could easily be into the seven figures." An estimated 50 Select Comfort staff members are affected by the tracking system, the complaint said.

Taylor worked in Internet-based sales at Select Comfort, where commissions ranged from 50 cents to $30 per order, according to the complaint.

He reported the flawed commission tracking system to management several times over a period of years, and was either yelled at or assured it was being fixed, according to the complaint. The complaint said Taylor resigned in April after management retaliated with unfounded disciplinary actions. The company said the claims are without merit but discuss pending litigation.
