Recon Scout robot gets an infrared update

Last update: October 5, 2008 - 8:53 PM

ReconRobotics Inc., the Edina-based maker of robotic devices, has added infrared (IR) technology to its Recon Scout reconnaissance robot. The Recon Scout IR can send images to a handheld control unit when there is no ambient light, and can clearly define objects 25 feet away.

The devices are 7.4 inches long and weigh 1.2 pounds, making them easy to carry and use, and they can withstand being thrown 120 feet or a drop of 30 feet. The robotics technology was developed at the University of Minnesota distributed robotics laboratory and funded primarily by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
