Lost your job? How to keep your health coverage:
• See if you can get on your spouse's company's plan.
• Check the cost of COBRA coverage. If you have a preexisting condition that could prevent you from getting health insurance on your own, it might be a good bet.
• If you are healthy and have a job lined up, a short-term policy will provide temporary coverage. But it won't cover preexisting conditions.
• If you are healthy and don't know when you'll be employed again, check out options for individual health insurance.
• If you have a family that needs coverage, think about mixing and matching. A family member who has a preexisting condition might want to stay on COBRA while healthy members buy individual policies.
