"At the beginning of each year, I feel like we are just getting started. January of 2015 will feel like Day One of Field Nation."

About Khan: Khan, 32, moved to the U.S. from his native Bangladesh when he was 18. He earned a degree in computer science from St. Cloud State University in 2004. After five years with the St. Cloud-based analytics firm eBureau, Khan formed Field Nation.

Personal file: Khan lives in Eden Prairie with his wife and newborn son. Hobbies include reading and time with his son.

What's big in 2015: Field Nation matches contract IT and telecom employees with businesses on a project-by-project basis. For the past two years, the Minneapolis company has been on Inc. magazine's list of the 500 fastest-growing small companies in the U.S. For each completed job by one of its freelancers, Field National gets a commission of 8 to 10 percent. Revenue for 2014 is projected to be between $60 and $70 million, up from $43 million in 2013. Field Nation has 50,000 résumés on file and says it can find a compatible match for a business client in minutes.

Final word: "Field Nation is the online marketplace of the independent workforce. These people started their own business because they have passion, and that's why they are so engaged."
