What effects are higher energy prices having on your grocery purchases? A January 2008 survey of 1,017 shoppers by the Food Marketing Institute found these answers:
• I cook more and eat out less: 71 percent
• I purchase fewer luxury items: 67 percent
• I buy more private-label than national-brand items: 60 percent
• I eat more or use more leftovers: 58 percent
• I purchase fewer food items overall: 48 percent
