Minnesota's Commerce Department has several tips for avoiding your property becoming unclaimed:
• Cash all refund, rebate and dividend checks.
• Respond to shareholder service requests for action.
• Keep a list of your accounts and keep it in your will.
• Notify companies when you move.
• Close old accounts.
• Use store or vendor credits within one year.
• And set up automatic withdrawal for safety deposit box rental fees.
