By spring, more will wear Delta uniforms

Delta Air Lines wants its flight attendants' uniforms, designed by Richard Tyler, to be worn by Northwest Airlines flight attendants in spring 2009. Atlanta-based Delta is seeking to buy Eagan-based Northwest in a stock-swap deal that would create the world's largest carrier. The deal, announced April 14, is expected to close by the end of this year. A joint company memo to flight attendants of both airlines on Thursday said that in the coming days Northwest flight attendants will receive details on upcoming "style clinics" that will show off the uniforms worn by Delta flight attendants.

Loss grows at Herberger's parent firm

Bon-Ton Stores Inc., the owner of Herberger's, Carson Pirie Scott and other regional department stores, said its fiscal second-quarter loss widened amid a difficult economic environment, and the company sees a loss for the year. For the quarter ended Aug. 2, Bon-Ton, based in York, Pa., reported a loss of $33.8 million, or $2.01 a share. Looking ahead, Bon-Ton said it expects to lose 45 to 95 cents a share this year, excluding a write-down. Same-store sales are expected to fall 3.5 to 5 percent, not the 2.5 to 3.5 percent previously forecast.
