Details: The final vacant parcel in Cottage Grove’s Summerhill Crossing planned unit-development area will be filled by a new 86-unit senior apartment building under city approvals granted this month.
The Cottage Grove City Council on July 16 unanimously approved a conditional use permit and site plan for Summerhill Crossing Senior Housing, which will join a medical office building anchored by a HealthEast clinic, a smaller office building and a Holiday Stationstore at the site.
Once planned for a mix of retail and restaurant space, the parcel was repurposed to senior housing last year by landowner Mike Rygh, founder and president of Custom One Homes, who teamed with Edina-based developer Mesaba Capital Partners and nonprofit senior care provider Augustana Care on the project.
After making some adjustments, the final plan by Pope Architects includes a mix of independent living, assisted living and memory care units ranging in size from 335 to 1,068 square feet. In addition to 14 memory care units, the first floor will house a bistro, spa and beauty salon that will be open to the public, as well as to residents.
Summerhill’s exterior will have elements of brick and cultured stone, making it compatible with nearby buildings. The majority of the structure will be three stories, tapering down to two stories at the end of the wings.
