Accounting firm HLB Tautges Redpath of White Bear Lake plans to change its name to Redpath and Co. and move its headquarters to downtown St. Paul in September.

The move, involving 45 of its 125 employees, is significant for downtown St. Paul, said Matt Kramer, CEO of the St. Paul Chamber of Commerce. He said the downtown area is becoming a hub for small to midsize businesses, augmenting its core strength with state government offices and hospitals.

Redpath executive Mark Gibbs, a 27-year veteran, will become managing partner in October, succeeding Jim Redpath, who will become a full-time partner and client manager.

Redpath and Gibbs will have offices both in St. Paul and the current White Bear Lake location.

Following the managing-partner transition, Redpath plans to focus on client management, tax expertise and new-business development. Gibbs will manage the firm's overall operations, client management and business development.

"Establishing our headquarters in St. Paul is a natural fit," said Gibbs. "We already have a presence in the local business community and this move will allow us to better serve our clients and advance our growth objectives."

Redpath is an employee-owned, 43-year-old firm.
