Minnesota-manufactured exports jumped 8.5 percent to $4.2 billion during the first quarter compared with the same period in 2007, state officials said Thursday.

The slumping U.S. dollar and more orders from Canada helped boost sales of Minnesota-made transportation equipment, processed foods, and computer and electronic goods. U.S. exports grew 14.3 percent during the quarter, but state officials were pleased with their gains.

"Exports grew in seven of our top 10 markets and in nine of our top 10 manufacturing sectors during the quarter," said Dan McElroy, commission of the Department of Employment and Economic Development.
