MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS

CyberOptics Inc., Golden Valley, has agreed to acquire the assets of Laser Design Inc., Minneapolis, a 3-D metrology company. The $3 million all-cash transaction is expected to close in February, pending approval by Laser Design's shareholders. Laser Design, which will be operated initially as a subsidiary, is expected to have a minimal impact on CyberOptics' profit in 2014.

NEW PRODUCTS

After successful completion of Phase I of a Fast Track Contract, Humanetics Corp., Minneapolis, together with its research collaborators at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, has been granted approval from the National Cancer Institute to move to Phase II of the contract. This phase will include an exploratory clinical trial to evaluate the ability of Humanetics' proprietary compound, BIO 300, to lessen the side effects from chemotherapy and radiation associated with lung cancer treatment.

PERFORMANCE

Datalink Inc., Eden Prairie, said that it expects to exceed its previous revenue and earnings forecast for the fourth quarter of 2013. The company now expects fourth quarter 2013 earnings per share to be 23 cents to 27 cents per share on revenue of about $174 million. The company's previous outlook was for earnings of 15 cents to 21 cents per share on revenue of between $160 million and $170 million. The company will report its fourth-quarter financial results on Feb. 20.
