AgePower Tech Search, a new technology design contest, has selected its first group of five finalists.

Five tech companies have been named finalists in the first AgePower Tech Search competition sponsored by Mojo Minnesota and Ecumen, a nonprofit senior housing and services company.

The goal is to find new high- and low-tech innovations that will have a positive impact on the aging experience and then give the winning company a real-life test environment and access to business and technology experts to aid the creation of a new venture. The judging will be on Jan. 21.

Ecumen, is one of the country’s 20 largest nonprofit senior housing and services companies with more than 10,000 customers. Mojo Minnesota, mojominnesota.com, is a cooperative of Minnesota entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, angel investors, business advisers and engineers working to spark entrepreneurship in Minnesota.

The five finalists are:

• A-VU Media, Minnetonka, seeks to provide seniors with access to all the possibilities of complex media services with easy-to-use interfaces (www.avumedia.com).

• CareTree, Chicago, seeks to provide a secure digital platform for home health caregivers and families to easily share care information by providing a single, centralized health record (www.caretree.me).

• ForMyChildren, a Minnesota/California collaboration that seeks to create online technology to allow parents or grandparents to securely share important stories, photos, videos, documents, passwords and legal information with spouses, adult children and/or grandchildren.
