Land O'Lakes Inc. said Wednesday it will purchase Plymouth-based Geosys, an agricultural technology firm, for an undisclosed price.

Arden Hills-based Land O'Lakes' WinField division, a distributor of herbicides, pesticides and crop nutrients, already has had a multiyear relationship with Geosys. The company, with about 50 employees in multiple countries, has sought a partner for accelerated growth, said Geosys' president, Damien Lepoutre, in a statement.

Geosys' technology allows farmers and farm retailers to use satellite images and agronomic data to better apply herbicides, pesticides and fertilizer.

"Today's purchase demonstrates Land O'Lakes' leadership in helping to build the farm of the future with cutting-edge concepts and technologies," said Land O'Lakes CEO Chris Policinski in a statement.
