Details: A long-awaited anchor residential element for the mixed-use New Brighton Exchange “urban village” redevelopment project has been secured with the approval of plans submitted by builder Pulte Homes of Minnesota.
Pulte’s Enclave at New Brighton Exchange calls for 27 acres of 89 single-family homes, 32 townhouse units and a 10-acre city park. It received the unanimous backing of the New Brighton City Council on Sept. 24.
The first phase will include 61 single-family homes to be arrayed along a new street which could be completed by this fall, pending final environmental remediation work on remaining pockets of contamination at the site.
Ian Peterson of Pulte Homes told the council the goal is to have two model houses ready in time for the March 2014 Parade of Homes.
The New Brighton Exchange, a 100-acre area at the northwest corner of Interstates 35W and 694, is a former commercial zone that once held an asphalt plant, a household debris dump, two rendering plants and other polluting industries.
Since plans for its redevelopment were first floated in the 1980s, two new commercial buildings and a 124-unit luxury market-rate rental apartment building have been built there.
Pulte signed a redevelopment contract with the city in June and is expected to close on the land Oct. 15, with work to begin shortly thereafter.
