A look at the people behind the numbers in area business.
Marissa Mallory, Comm-Works
Title: Human resources director
Marissa Mallory, the new human resources director at Comm-Works, is working to support the global technology integrator’s growth and culture so it can continue offering its “personalized approach” to serving clients.
Mallory, also a member of Comm-Works’ executive committee, is focusing on employee engagement and recruiting.
“The executive team really embraces the strategic partnership between human capital management and the business itself,” Mallory said. “I want to be involved in the strategic thinking and the decisions to be able to build an infrastructure that can continue to deliver what we’re promising to our clients.”
Comm-Works’ growth potential and employees’ passion and expertise fueled her interest in joining the Plymouth-based company. “There’s a ton of opportunity from a human resources perspective to leverage all of that and continue the excellent service we’ve been providing,” Mallory said.
Before joining Comm-Works, she worked at medical products company Coloplast, partnering with sales, business support, information technology and procurement functions of its U.S. subsidiary. She had previously managed daily human resources operations and drove larger human resources projects at the National Arbitration Forum and LaCrosse Global Fund Services, now Wells Fargo Fund Services.
Mallory has an MBA with a specialization in human resource management from Capella University and is a certified professional in human resources (PHR).
Comm-Works, founded in 1995, offers design, deployment and management of technology solutions in infrastructure, security and energy management to organizations in retail, finance and insurance, health care, manufacturing and government.
Q: What does being on the executive committee mean in your role at Comm-Works?
A: If I don’t know the business then I can’t properly support the business. If we can’t build that work design properly, it’s like a house of cards. We speak on a day-to-day basis about the direction of the business, what we want to offer our clients and how this is going to work from an infrastructure standpoint.
Q: What’s your role in the company’s global sales strategy?
A: We’ve managed these projects so well nationally that expanding to the global market just makes sense, and I plan on being a very strong partner in the design of that work, how it functions, how we model it and market it to our clients.
Q: What has drawn you into a career in human resources?
A: I love being a part of watching people succeed. I love being part of enabling their success. Everything I do, everything we touch here in HR in some way enables the success of an individual, of a leader or of the organization or a group of employees or a functional capacity. Everything we do is in support of success and that is inspiring to me.
