FARGO, N.D. — A Minnesota couple has gone to federal court to recoup $2,100 in automobile repairs for an accident allegedly caused by a mail carrier in Fargo.

Craig and Tamela Schmuck say the accident happened in December when a postal worker backed out of a driveway and struck their daughter's 2010 Toyota Corolla.

The Schmucks say Jeffrey Borgrud operated the vehicle in a "negligent, careless and reckless manner."

The lawsuit accuses the postal service of denying the claim for damages.

A judge earlier this week granted the government an extra month to file its response to the complaint. The U.S. attorney's office declined comment because it's an open case.
