Score another one for mobile banking.

Not only can smartphone users deposit checks in their bank account by snapping a photo of the front and back, they can now get a text message instead of a paper receipt at the ATM.

Wells Fargo & Co. announced the new feature Monday as an option at more than 12,000 ATMs across the country. It's available to all Wells Fargo online or mobile banking customers who provide their mobile phone numbers.

The text receipt represents another green choice to avoid a paper receipt, said Alicia Moore, head of Wells Fargo ATM banking.

"Our customers tell us they appreciate the ability to reduce paper waste," she said. "Text receipts give them one more option."

The bank already offers an e-mail sent to an online banking inbox or designated personal e-mail account as well as the "no receipt" choice at the ATM.

Minneapolis-based personal finance expert Nathan Dungan of Sharesavespend.com thinks it's a good idea for anyone who's more tech-dependent.

"It's another way to help people remain on top of their money choices," he said. □
