SeaWorld Orlando’s new Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin includes a restaurant called Expedition Cafe designed to resemble the mess hall of an isolated research camp on that icebound continent. A stand-alone gift shop called Glacial Connections includes sleek penguin pillars and shelving and a long line of new penguin-themed merchandise. Both are among the most detailed retail spaces SeaWorld has ever built.

Similarly, the most impressive element of Disney World’s $425 million New Fantasyland project is the restaurant called Be Our Guest, where diners are made to feel as if they are eating in the Beast’s castle. And right next door, Gaston’s Tavern sells mugs of a proprietary drink called LeFou’s Brew — Disney World’s answer to butterbeer.
