NEW YORK — Stocks are turning lower in midday trading on Wall Street at the end of a volatile week.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 67 points, or 0.5 percent, at 15,106 as of noon Eastern time Friday. The Dow had surged 180 points the day before.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell six points, or 0.4 percent, to 1,629. Banks and energy stocks fell the most.
The Nasdaq composite fell 16 points, or 0.5 percent, to 3,428.
The market got no help from the latest news on the economy. A University of Michigan survey of consumer sentiment fell in June compared with the previous month.
Casey's General Stores fell 3 percent after the convenience store operator reported earnings that fell short of what analysts were expecting.
