Five businesses were recognized as “Best In Business” for success and support of the Twin Cities region.
The Star Tribune, Bremer Bank, One Simple Plan, a communications agency, beer peddler Finnegans and nonprofit YouthLink were named “Best In Business” winners at Thursday’s annual awards luncheon of the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce.
“This event honors companies that strengthen our region through innovation, strategic solutions and perseverance in business,” said Chamber CEO Todd Klingel. “These five companies are setting the standard for operating a successful business and leading the way for future business leaders in the community.”
The Star Tribune, which emerged from bankruptcy in 2009, has improved its financial performance under new management and emerged as one of America’s five largest newspapers, based on Sunday circulation.
St. Paul-based Bremer Bank was honored for “extraordinary contributions and activities” in the community that also have enhanced the lives of employees.
One Simple Plan was named “Small Business of the Year” for its entrepreneurial spirit and creative business strategy.
Finnegans, a fast-growing retail beer company, donates its profits to local charities.
YouthLink, a nonprofit agency, was honored for its comprehensive housing, health care, tutoring, job-training and other services provided to the growing ranks of homeless youth in the Twin Cities.
“We are honored that our efforts are being recognized, but more importantly, we hope this award can help put a spotlight on the challenges thousands of teens in our own community are facing on a daily basis,” said YouthLink Executive Director Heather Huseby.
The Best in Business Awards, which replaced the Chamber’s “Quality of Life Awards” three years ago, recognize businesses for their success and support of the Twin Cities region.
