Grocery store workers in the western half of the metro area are reporting to work under a new contract approved Sunday.
The nearly 10,000 members of United Food and Commercial Worker's Local 653 voted to approve a one-year contract after bargaining began in early February.
Former local president Ray Sawicky didn't disclose terms of the contract, but said "they went on a one-year agreement because of the uncertainty of health care coming up … and how it affects everybody's plan. That's the big thing."
He said the contract, which went into effect Sunday, covers workers at stores including Cub, Rainbow, Lunds and Byerly's, Kowalski's Markets, and independent Supervalu stores.
