Meanwhile, the Minnesota Department of Commerce has its hands full trying to find owners of abandoned checking and savings accounts, uncashed payroll checks, unclaimed safe deposit box contents, and stocks and bonds.
So far this year, the state has collected nearly $50 million in unclaimed property and paid out $16.4 million as owners have been located or have come forward.
