Best Buy found these products through its venture-capital program.

1. Slingbox: The device allows users to access and control a home television through a PC, laptop, or a "smart" cell phone.

2. Kajeet: A cell phone service for 11- to 13-year-old "tweens." Parents can set minutes, block calls, and establish payment plans for children.

3. Rocketfish wireless speakers: The system, now sold under Best Buy's private label, connects rear-surround speakers wirelessly to any home theater receiver.

Lights out at U energy conference. Irony police notified.

Just as Lawrence Kazmerski, a top official at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, was about to give the keynote address at the University of Minnesota's annual E3 conference at the RiverCentre in St. Paul, the lights went out, bathing the audience in darkness and a deep sense of irony.
