  • Updated: December 29, 2012 - 3:35 PM

What: FitMN is a coalition of Minnesota health clubs seeking changes at the Legislature to give small businesses and individuals a tax incentive to get more physically active.

Members of the coalition: Anytime Fitness, Life Time Fitness, Snap Fitness, the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities and the International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association.

The proposal: Employers would be allowed to make a pretax contribution of up to $600 for their workers' wellness services, including fitness club membership dues; families and individuals could deduct fitness center costs (up to $1,000 for families, $500 for individuals) from their adjusted gross income when completing their Minnesota income tax returns.

About Chuck Runyon: The CEO and co-founder of Anytime Fitness is spearheading the FitMN effort. Runyon also is co-author of "Working Out Sucks" and was featured on ABC's "Secret Millionaire" series.
