$54 million laptop lawsuit dismissed

A $54 million lawsuit filed against Best Buy Co. Inc. for losing a laptop computer has been dismissed by a court in Washington, D.C. Raelyn Campbell of Washington sued Best Buy in November, seeking fair compensation for replacement of the $1,100 computer and extended warranty, plus expenses related to identity theft protection. A Best Buy spokeswoman said the company wouldn't comment on legal matters, but that it didn't pay a settlement. The Richfield-based retailer said it gave Campbell $1,110.35 and a $500 gift card in October as compensation. A judge dismissed Campbell's lawsuit Feb. 28, as first reported on a blog run by the National Association of Manufacturers at blog.nam.org. Campbell did not return calls seeking comment.
