What it means for travelers

• For now, Delta and Northwest will continue operating as before. They cannot combine until federal regulators have reviewed the merger and given it approval.

• Northwest's frequent flier program will likely be folded into Delta's if the merger is approved.

• Regular Northwest passengers would gain greater access to European destinations through Delta, while Delta passengers would find it easier to travel to Asia via Northwest's routes.

Lights out at U energy conference. Irony police notified.

Just as Lawrence Kazmerski, a top official at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, was about to give the keynote address at the University of Minnesota's annual E3 conference at the RiverCentre in St. Paul, the lights went out, bathing the audience in darkness and a deep sense of irony.
