Goodbye, Crazy Target Lady.

The Minneapolis-based retailer has officially retired the character, a mainstay of Target's holiday marketing campaign leading up to Black Friday.

In the commercials, Minnesota-bred actress Maria Bamford plays a slightly demented, feverishly obsessed fan of Target's Black Friday deals. Sporting a red tracksuit, Crazy Target Lady plots strategy and even pumps iron to prepare for what's obviously the most important day of her life.

Shoppers seem to either love or detest the character. As of Monday, 3,457 liked the "I love that Crazy Target lady" Facebook page while 81 people preferred "I hate that Crazy Target lady" page.

Under the leadership of new chief marketing officer Jeff Jones, the retailer has created new holiday ads featuring Bullseye the Dog called "Dream Big, Save Bigger." Target also will debut commercials starring its Deals Duets, a man and woman helpfully advising shoppers with reworked lyrics to popular Christmas songs.

"Black Friday really kicks off the holiday shopping season, and Target's ad campaign is designed to capture our guests' attention in a way that's lighthearted and memorable," said company spokeswoman Dustee Tucker Jenkins. "The campaign's modern humor is certain to resonate with anyone who has ever participated in the fun of Black Friday deal-hunting."
