Background: Raised in Compton and South Central Los Angeles, he founded Operation HOPE, the United States' first nonprofit social investment banking organization, started after the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles in 1992. It operates in 70 U.S. communities, Haiti and South Africa and has served more than 1 million individuals. He later served as a vice president on President George W. Bush's Advisory Council on Financial Literacy. He lives in Atlanta.
