Filing a return to get a rebate? IRS can help

The IRS is opening its doors Saturday to prepare tax returns for low-income workers, retirees and veterans who aren't normally required to file a tax return but must in order to receive economic stimulus payments of at least $300. The first payments go out in May.

These IRS assistance centers are open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday:

Minneapolis: 250 Marquette Av. S.

St. Paul: 30 E. 7th St. --Wells Fargo Place building

Mankato: 1921 Excel Drive

Rochester: 21 SW. 2nd St.

For information about participating IRS partner sites that also will be open to help, call the toll-free IRS hotline: 1-800-906-9887.

Individuals with computer access can e-file their own form for free. Find out how at www.irs.gov.

Taxpayers with questions about the one-time stimulus payment can call 1-866-234-2942 toll-free between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
