Imation Corp. introduced two optical media duplicators for simple compact disc and DVD duplication. The Imation CD Duplicator and Imation CD/DVD Duplicator copy CDs and DVDs without software, cables or a personal computer.
The devices are portable, standalone disc-to-disc systems that can create copies of marketing and sales materials, music, video, catalogs and other data with the touch of a button. Compatible with 12- or 8-centimeter discs, the CD duplicator operates on a 52X CD-RW drive, while the CD/DVD duplicator features a 16X DVD+/-R/RW drive. The high-performance duplicators deliver continuous copying without the need to cool the system between duplications, and a user-friendly liquid-crystal display menu offers numerous options. The CD model is priced at $279.99 and the CD/DVD model is $329.99.

The suite includes SmeadSoft's property and evidence room management software, which is designed for police departments, and a records management system for property and evidence, which has all the features of the property and evidence room plus chain of custody with digitized signatures for tracking control, auditability to reduce or eliminate evidence-mishandling claims, and an inventory management system.

Just as Lawrence Kazmerski, a top official at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, was about to give the keynote address at the University of Minnesota's annual E3 conference at the RiverCentre in St. Paul, the lights went out, bathing the audience in darkness and a deep sense of irony.
