Comcast Corp. said it will lay off 65 St. Paul employees this summer, as the telecommunications firm plans to move some of its call center work to Oregon.

The employees affected are part of Comcast's inbound sales group, which answers sales calls from new and existing customers. The layoffs will happen from July 30 to August 20, according to a letter sent to local and state officials. Employees can apply for open positions at Comcast's Portland center and other jobs in the Twin Cities, said Mary Beth Schubert, vice president of corporate affairs.

Schubert said moving the jobs to Oregon will allow Comcast to expand its Twin Cities call center in other areas. Comcast plans to add 200 new Minnesota employees by the end of the year, she said.

Comcast currently has 2,000 Minnesota employees.
