Before that, he held executive positions at United Technologies Corp.; Pratt & Whitney; General Electric, and McKinsey & Co.

Education: MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Directorships: Member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis board of directors; chairman of the board of trustees of the American Public Media Group and Minnesota Public Radio; board member of Covidien, an Ireland-based medical products firm, and a member of the Minnesota Business Partnership Executive Committee.

Hobbies: Collects Ford and Italian cars; scuba diving and boating.
