MOM Brands acquires Coco Wheats

  • Updated: March 19, 2012 - 11:13 AM

Newly renamed MOM Brands has added Coco Wheats cereal to its line of breakfast foods in a deal with Little Crow Foods of Warsaw, Ind.

The acquisition by the company, formerly known as Malt-O-Meal, was announced Friday. Terms were not disclosed.

MOM Brands said the acquisition of Coco Wheats is a natural extension of its existing cereal brands.

"Coco Wheats is a beloved breakfast cereal enjoyed by millions of families," said Paul Norton, MOM's senior vice president for marketing and business planning, in a statement. "It makes another strong addition to our hot cereal offerings and our growing house of brands."

MOM Brands adopted its new name last month to reflect its growing cold cereal business and expanding line of products which now includes 10 brands.

In addition to Malt-O-Meal, MOM Brands' product line includes Mom's Best Naturals and Better Oats, Coco Roos and Apple Zings.

Little Crow Foods, in business since 1903, also sold its other pancake, muffin and cornbread mixes and season coatings to Illinois-based Gilster-Mary Lee Corp.
