St. Paul-based engineering and architecture firm TKDA said it will acquire SJA Architects for an undisclosed amount.

TKDA said the deal will help it pursue projects in northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin. SJA Architects, based in Duluth, has ten employees. The acquisition will expand TKDA's staff to about 201, with 180 employees in Minnesota.

"We want to create the best team to win additional work," said TKDA CEO Bill Deitner. TKDA said it is committed to maintaining an office in Duluth and growing staff there.

TKDA has worked on some high-profile projects including the redesign of the I-35W St. Anthony Falls Bridge, after the original bridge collapsed in 2007.

SJA has worked on several University of Minnesota buildings on the Duluth and Minneapolis campuses.

"TKDA, with its solid reputation for quality engineering, is the right partner to grow our business," SJA President Ken Johnson said in a statement.
