The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Best Buy Wednesday announced the voluntary recall of a mobile battery case for iPhones that can overheat and pose a fire hazard.
The product is sold under the name Rocketfish and is intended to recharge iPhone 3G and 3GS smartphones. About 31,000 units have been sold in the United States and 1,000 have been sold in Canada.
The safety commission and Best Buy reported 14 instances of the battery cases overheating in the U.S., three of which involved minor burns to consumers and four of which caused minor property damage.
The commission said consumers should immediately stop using the devices and contact Best Buy for instructions on returning the items and receiving a $70 gift card ($105 in Canada). A toll-free number for the recall is 1-800-917-5737.
