Ryan Cos. veteran Kent Carlson is heading up a new company being formed by the merger of Anderson Builders and KM Building Co., the Twin Cities companies announced Friday.

The new company, Anderson-KM Builders, will expand its development business, said Carlson, the new company's chief executive. Carlson will be one of four partners. Arne Cook, former president of CSM Corp.'s commercial properties division, has joined as chief financial officer and partner.

Anderson-KM Builders is already working on site selection for a privately held manufacturer in Minnesota searching for a spot to build a new site in the Twin Cities, Carlson said, adding that he couldn't name the client.

"We're down to four sites in three cities," Carlson said.

Anderson-KM Builders will operate from Anderson's current location in St. Louis Park and KM Building's offices in Minneapolis, with plans to consolidate to a single location later. There will be no layoffs; the new company will employ 24 people. Combined, the companies have annual sales of between $30 million and $40 million, Carlson said.

Steve Faber, who bought KM Building Co. in 1999, will stay on as a partner and business development officer. Greg Anderson, who founded Anderson Builders, will also be a partner and chief construction officer.
