Cottage Grove businessman John Thomas Jundt was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court to five years of probation on one count of trafficking stolen property. In a plea agreement Jundt admitted that he bought more than $49,000 worth of stolen merchandise and sold it over the Internet through Oakdale-based InetDVD.com.
At the sentencing, Judge Michael J. Davis cited his early plea and cooperation with investigators. Jundt admitted using the U.S. mail to ship stolen goods to out-of-state buyers. In late February, Judge Davis sentenced four others, each on one count of conspiracy. Mark Jerome Terry of St. Paul and William John Terry of Stacy, Minn., were sentenced to 24 months; Rachel Lynn Miller of Roseville got 20 months, and Daniel Adolph LaBarre of St. Paul was sentenced to a year and one day. At an earlier sentencing Rodney Jay Shafer of West St. Paul and Daniel Schott Reetz of St. Paul both got 24 months.
Jundt sold the stolen merchandise as high-quality "used" goods through eBay, Amazon.com and their own Internet and retail outlets. Much of the merchandise was stolen from Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy stores throughout the Midwest and was sold to Jundt for pennies on the dollar. Some of those stolen goods were also sold to a Woodbury-based business owned by Christopher Allen Janota of St. Paul, who pleaded guilty in late January to one count of conspiracy in connection to the scam. His sentencing date has not been scheduled.
