In the wake of a rider's injury, a federal recall has been issued for a bicycle carrier rack imported from Taiwan by a Twin Cities company.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced Wednesday that Quality Bicycle Products of Bloomington is recalling about 100 Civia Loring front-mounting, aftermarket racks that were sold at independent shops nationwide until February.

The CPSC said the rack's mounting bracket can crack or break, sending the $175 accessory into the bike's front wheel. One rider suffered minor cuts associated with the bracket's failure, the agency said.

"Consumers should remove this rack from their bicycles immediately," the agency said in its recall alert, then contact the store where it was bought for a refund or replacement.

For more information, consumers can also contact Quality Bicycle Products toll-free at 1-877-311-7686 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday or go to civiacycles.com/aftermarketloringfrontrackrecall.

Quality Bicycle Parts supplies more than 5,000 independent retailers across the country with parts, accessories and apparel.
