YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES

Wondering where your tax refund could be? Try the IRS.
The Internal Revenue Service has released a list of Minnesotans who unclaimed refund checks. If you are not on the list but want to check to see if you have an unclaimed refund, visit the IRS website http://www.irs.gov
Uncle Sam has a message for 1,431 Minnesota taxpayers: "I have your refund."
On Wednesday, the IRS put out a list of taxpayers whose refunds were returned because of an incorrect address. This happens because people move and fail to change their addresses. Or they file returns with incomplete, illegible or transposed numbers.
The quick take:
Minnesotans are owed $1,184,224. The average check is $828. Some taxpayers even have more than one check in the bunch.
Nearly half the cash awaits residents of Hennepin and Ramsey counties. But the luckiest ducks are in Carver County, where 22 residents are owed an average of $2,304 -- the state's largest county average.
The number of undeliverable refunds rose about 26 percent over last year, as residents who normally would not file returns did so to claim the $30 to $60 credit for long-distance telephone taxes.
Nationwide, about $110 million is owed to 115,478 taxpayers. That's a fraction of the 105 million refunds worth $240 billion that the IRS processed so far this year.
Think it's your lucky day? Grab your Social Security number, tax filing status (single or married filing jointly, for example), and your refund on your 2006 return and head to "Where's my refund?" at www.IRS.gov. Taxpayers also can call 1-800-829-1954.
