Small-format CityTarget to debut in Chicago next year

Target announced Tuesday that its new, small-format store will be called CityTarget and that one is planned to open in Chicago next year.

The retailer said future similar-sized stores will carry the CityTarget name as well. Planned locations for those stores include Seattle, the Twin Cities, Washington, D.C., San Francisco and Miami.

Target said the urban stores will offer a broad range of merchandise with an emphasis on daily essentials.

They will run 60,000 to 100,000 square feet, as opposed to a typical Target store that ranges from 125,000 to 180,000 square feet.
