Weyerhaeuser to close plant in Minnesota
Weyerhaeuser Co., the world's largest lumber producer, said it will close one plant in Minnesota and two in Canada this year because of reduced demand for wooden building materials. The laminated strand lumber plant in Deerwood, Minn., and oriented strand board plants in Drayton Valley, Alberta, and Wawa, Ontario, have a total of 420 employees, Federal Way, Wash.-based Weyerhaeuser said. The North American price of 1,000 square feet of oriented strand board has fallen 70 percent to $156.50 since reaching a high of $522 in May 2004.
