It's Spam in a pouch, and now it's available nationwide.

The company that put Minnesota, er, cuisine on the map announced that it will begin selling single-serve helpings of the famous pork-and-ham product nationwide, expanding a regional item introduced in 2004.

A news release from the company says Spam Singles, 3 ounces each, can be eaten straight from the package, need no refrigeration and come in two styles: classic and turkey.

Spam, touted for its convenience when it was introduced in 1937, blends pork and ham with salt, sugar and water. The single-serve pouches will sell for about $1 each, according to the company.

Veteran civil rights lawyer to retire

One of the mainstay Minnesota law firms in civil rights and employment rights law, Miller-O'Brien, is losing a partner and adding a new name to the shingle. After 40 years of practice, more than half of them with William O'Brien, Richard Miller is set to retire. Brendan Cummins will become lead labor lawyer in the firm, now called Miller-O'Brien-Cummins.

The Miller-O'Brien firm has been involved in some landmark civil rights and workplace cases. In 2002, it helped negotiate a $31 million settlement from American Express Co. on behalf of 4,000 female financial advisers who alleged a pattern of sex and age discrimination. In 2005, the firm represented two black tenants in a housing discrimination case that resulted in a $575,000 award, the largest of its kind in Minnesota.
