More Minnesota homeowners are paying more than 30 percent of their incomes for housing:

2000: 19.8 percent

2005: 31.4 percent

2006: 33.9 percent

More Minnesota renters have also passed the 30 percent mark:

2000: 35 percent

2006: 44.6 percent

Minnesota continues to lead the country in the percentage of owner-occupied housing:

2000: 74.6 percent (U.S.: 66.2 percent)

2006: 76.3 percent (U.S.: 67.3 percent)

Lights out at U energy conference. Irony police notified.

Just as Lawrence Kazmerski, a top official at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, was about to give the keynote address at the University of Minnesota's annual E3 conference at the RiverCentre in St. Paul, the lights went out, bathing the audience in darkness and a deep sense of irony.
