Marie Johnson, director of the University of Minnesota’s Medical Devices Center Fellows Program, is leaving her position, a university official confirmed on Tuesday.

“We wish her well,” said Arthur Erdman, director of the Medical Devices Center.

Johnson is the founder of Northfield-based AUM Cardiovascular, which is developing a device to provide a non-invasive way for medical professionals to detect life-threatening coronary artery disease.

After an official confirmed her departure, Johnson told the Star Tribune she is leaving to work on AUM Cardiovascular full-time.

"This product needs to the hit market," Johnson said. "It was a hard decision, (but) I feel like it was absolutely the best decision for me and the company."

AUM Cardiovascular plans to bring its product to market in 2013.

Johnson said she will leave her office on April 15 and stay involved with the fellows program until this year's group finishes in August.

Erdman said the center is already looking to hire someone for Johnson’s position.
