Moments after the DFL convention began, a delegate waged the gathering's first objection.
From a floor microphone, the delegate objected to the plan to say the Pledge of Alliance because it uses the words, "under God."
The delegate said, that phrase was "contrary to the United States constitution" and "violated the laws of America."
He got little support in the hall -- or from DFL chair Brian Melendez.
"The delegate's point is not well taken," Melendez said to applause. "Welcome to the DFL!"
The convention attendees then rose to their feet for the posting of flag colors, say the pledge, hear the national anthem and bow their heads in prayer.
