President Obama talked to Sen. Amy Klobuchar Wednesday about his upcoming Supreme Court appointment, but not for the reason some insiders had thought.

While the Minnesota Democrat has been on some people's lists as a potential nominee, the president apparently reached out to her as a member of the Judiciary Committee, which gets first crack at judicial nominations. Call it an informational interview, not a job interview. Wednesday's call from the White House came after Obama met with a bipartisan group of Senate leaders in the Oval Office. In all, the White House said he telephoned nine members of the Judiciary Committee, including three Republicans. The President will make calls to additional Senators in the days ahead. One likely recipient is Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., who also sits on the Judiciary panel.
