The speeches are over.

The GM speaks, The media relations maven speaks. The manager speaks. The cook speaks, The custodian speaks. The team psychic speaks.

O.K. parts of that sentence aren't true.

But there were a few speeches this morning. Now the squad is on the field for the first full workout of spring training. All players have reported (Estarlin De Los Santos was in the clubhouse this morning) and this thing can get started.

Harmon Killebrew, Rod Carew and Paul Molitor have reported for their duties as special instructors.

The Twins hope Nick Punto takes it easy early in camp since he's coming off of wrist surgery, but Punto apparently is ahead of schedule.

Heard from Jacque Jones that he might take some grounders at first to show the club he can be flexible. Jones sees that the Twins don't have a true centerfielder here and thinks he can carve out a role for himself as a backup to all three outfield spots. We'll see. You can't blame the man for trying to make his own break,

If Jim Thome isn't going to participate in fielding drills, what the heck is he going to do all day? I've gotta find out. He can sit up here and keep us company. Always room the press box for another Chicago area guy.

One more thing: Illinois 81, Gophers 67.Believe it.
